Who's Your Massa
In 2018 America, we are so racially charged and sensitive that just the mentioning of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, evokes anger and resentment, especially among African Americans and most Democrats. He has been accused by the media at large and Hilary Clinton of returning America to the days of slavery. Slavery? Regardless of the bill of goods that the media has sold you, we know NOTHING about slavery here in America. We know nothing about backbreaking labor for the wage of a shallow grave, soul wrenching chains, or the fear of lynching. We are too busy indulging ourselves with every pleasure within the reach of our swiping and/or clicking finger, a wealth of information as quick as seconds and enough food for an army for the cost of a few dollars. Slavery? We know NOTHING about slavery. While I have much more to say about all this (which I will in time) I’m talking about eating to live.
The Bible has something to say about slavery. I don’t know if you’re going to like it but you already know I gotta get butNaked. 1 Corinthians 9:27 says, But I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified. There is an absolute truth that I’d like you to grapple with.
Rock wit me…
You are a slave – either to God, to your enemy or to yourself. You can take a poll of each of your decisions and know who your true massa is. In an effort to keep it simple, yet challenge you regarding every major decision of your life; let’s keep food as the focal point. (But, you really could put any major subject in your life in its place.)For example, if you serve the Lord regarding your body, then you would get adequate sleep, eat healthily, and exercise regularly. If your massa is Satan (the enemy of your soul) you never go to sleep in the same day you woke up, you probably eat fast food most of the week and you can’t walk a flight of steps without fear of passing out. (that’s for skinny people LOL) If self is your master, you probably hit the snooze button 2 too many times, you grab something to eat at whatever spot gets your attention on the way home and you probably spend a few days a month in the gym - If you feel like it. If you have no intention of effecting other people for Christ, that works fine. No worries. But, if you’re gonna be a True Believer, (Yep! I’m questioning your commitment to Christ based on your perspective of food) then living for self is UNACCEPTABLE, incorrect and a miserable existence.
Let’s remember, this is more than about being fit and fine. Being butNaked is about spending your energy living a life that is worthy of the applause of nail-scarred hands (Thx Mark B). Also, it’s not just about the goal, the weight loss, or being rid of the desperate need for a doctor. My whole purpose for communicating with you through iambutNaked.com is to appeal to your sense of wanting more than just a once a week goose (pinch on the butt) by going to church and this being the extent of your relationship with Christ. I want you to thrive in every area of your life and that’s gonna cost you – BIG TIME!
One of the most important things that I have learned from reading ALL of Mark Battersons’ books is this (in my own words): Although we tend to be focused on the destiny, the dream, the goal, the weight, the relationship, the job, the opportunity; life in Christ is not fixated on that. The life Christ paid for with His blood concentrates on who we are becoming along the way. The goal is just as important as the path you take to get there. We must keep the end in mind.
In verse 27 of 1 Corinthians 9, Paul was focused on not being disqualified as a believer who was responsible for communicating the Gospel in a way that the number of believers increased because of His submission and obedience to Christ as Lord, not just as Savior. Do you know the difference? Jesus as Savior is an afterthought. I’ll make the decisions and beg Jesus to save me from my consequences. Jesus as Lord means I consult my Master before I make any decision. (But I digress a lil bit.) Paul knew that what we see in the mirror is just as effective as what we say. In fact, think about it. Maybe some of the people who need Christ will make a different choice because of how you treat yourself. Others need to see the physical results of why it is essential to surrender their life to the Lordship of Christ. But, if they see no difference between their lives and yours?...
“Just because I eat McDonald’s every week”, you ask, Yep! Maybe you should examine your life and the decisions you make to see if you have disqualified yourself.
Tune in next week to the video. I’ll share an easy recipe.
